Historic Downtown
Walk-a-Bout Healdsburg, the walking tour of Healdsburg by foot is launching their 2013-14 season with a selection of seasonal and historic walks that capture what makes Healdsburg a great town to visit and live in. The new tours, the creation of long-time tourism and event planner Lori Moore, are lively and entertaining glimpses into the known and secret Healdsburg.
Participants hear scandalous stories like the tale of Madam Lucinda Walker who, with her husband, operated a brothel where the Westamerica Bank is now located. Learn the sagas of abandoned, widowed and uneducated women who became prostitutes working in the town's dance halls, boarding houses, brothels and saloons during the 1800's.
Learn how the 1870's influx of Chinese laundries played a role in Healdsburg's growth. And how in 1886, a grizzly murder and a "piece of cake" ignited anti-Chinese violence throughout the county. These are just a few of the salacious legends recounted on Walk-a-Bout Healdsburg theme tours. Specialty tours can be put together by request. Lunch at one of Healdsburg's excellent restaurants can be arranged; stop and sample several tasting rooms located around Plaza Park or wander through some of this area's beautiful vineyards. Over 20 art galleries, some tucked away, delight your artistry senses.
